Italy Trip Sep. 2000

Vatican City, San Peter's Basilica

We visited San Peter’s Basilica. It is a huge, magnificent church with beautiful ceiling domes, lots of famous artwork & sculptures, and marble columns.

Inside, we find Michelangelo’s Pieta – one of the earliest sculpture work done by Michelangelo, at age 25 – behind bullet-proof glass.

The staircase exiting from the Vatican Museum has a cool double-helix design.

The first day we arrived in Rome, David couldn’t resist checking email at an internet cafe near the hotel.

Note: it is also a laundromat.

We went out walking around almost all night – got really sore feet.  We took a photo of the Victorio Emmanuel II Monument at night.

We heard later that the Romans don’t like it because it is gaudy and takes too much space.
