While we were visiting with David’s parents in Long Beach for Thanksgiving holiday, David went on a short boating trip with his dad and brother Eric.

Here’s a video of the trio going from Long Beach to LA Harbor (with view of the LA Lighthouse) in the Riva 50′ (David’s dad’s boat). The weather and scenery are beautiful but be prepared for some loud wind noise in the video :-)

It was a beautiful sunny day in southern California – very warm for November in the 80′s and 90′s. David wanted to visit the world’s oldest operating McDonald’s franchise in Downey, CA and drive there in the 1948 Chrysler New Yorker that he co-owns with his dad.

We arrived there safely (you never know with an old – uh, classic – car what might happen) and had our lunch (David had a burger and I had some chicken nuggets) on site, joined by lots of pigeons who seemed unafraid of people. I can see why the Italians called these birds “rats with wings” now. Anyway, we had a good time and here’s the video.

We took the scenic route from Palos Verdes to Long Beach on the way back from visiting a friend. Here’s the video of our scenic drive along the coast in the neighborhood where David grew up. You’ll also see the ocean view home that we almost bought a few years ago and how we missed out on a couple million dollars worth of home equity!

We took a day trip to Temecula this Sunday.

First we met up with our friends Tom & Helen to look at some bank REO listings. According to an agent we spoke to, the REO listings under $200K are getting lots of bids. There are investors who fix up and flip the homes quickly, as well as those who rent them out while waiting to sell in a few years for profit.

We also checked out new homes for sale just for comparison. Here’s a video of us touring a model home priced in the $275K-$300K (before upgrades).

Later that day, we met up with Amber’s parents who are buying a new home in Winchester. We had dinner together with Amber’s parents and relatives in the area and made it back to Long Beach in good time (< 1.5 hr. drive).

We spent the night in Monterey on our drive down to southern CA from the Bay Area. The next day, we had lunch (scones and tea) at The Tuck Box (Amber had been there one time before with her friends, but it’s David’s first visit).

Afterward, we walked around Carmel, drove the famous 17-Mile Drive and enjoyed the beautiful coastal scenery before heading down to southern CA. We made good time and arrived in Long Beach around 10:30pm.
