Jan-Mar 2007 Review

The first quarter of the year went by kind of normally – we took care of our current portfolio of rental properties, evaluated some real estate deals, did some research on new business opportunities, etc. The usual – mostly.

I should mention that David got his TX real estate license in mid-February – we were not pursuing a traditional brokerage business; just wanted better access to information for our own deals mostly. Anyway, soon after we decided to help a friend purchase her first condo in Dallas. So we started looking at condos in the Dallas area every couple of weeks or so. Well, it was a long process (we looked at A LOT of properties over 3.5 months) but my friend Fenfen just closed on her first home at the end of June – it was a great experience helping a first-time home buyer. We remember how confusing and scary it was buying our first home – which seems so long ago. Not that we plan to make a business out of this type of thing – it would take way too much time, and we don’t want or need to create “jobs” for ourselves.

Early in March we invited some friends who are also business associates over to our house. We attempted to cook a big meal for everyone and it actually turned out good. Barry is our property manager and Tara used to manage properties for us. Fray and Nancy are the nicest people we’ve met in TX, and we’ve met more and more good people through them. We really enjoy working with high-quality people! Warren Buffett suggests only working with people you like and admire, and we wholeheartedly agree.
