August 2009

Tour of our Mountain View home

by Amber on August 21, 2009

in At Home,News & Updates

We shot a 3-min. video today of our short-term rental home in Mountain View, CA.

This will be our home base and office for the next month as we visit with friends in the Bay Area. Let’s meet up if you’re in the area!  We’ll be here until 9/18 or so.

BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair) if you come visit us because we’re kind of lacking in furniture as you can see in the video :-)

P.S. You may be wondering why we’re renting a house for a month in the Bay Area. Well, we are pursuing our dream of a mobile lifestyle, inspired by Tim Ferris’ book “The 4 Hour Work Week” (on our book recommendations list). We are so blessed to have the freedom and flexibility to pull it off so far!

We just spent 3 days with Ryan Deiss and Perry Belcher at the Traffic and Conversion Summit in Austin, TX.

This is not a typical sale-a-thon event! We were really impressed that these guys actually delivered solid content for 3 full days. In other words, it was worth going back to Texas in August :-)

Ryan and Perry are truly exceptional internet marketers and nice guys too. Well, you kind of get used to Perry telling inappropriate jokes and just have lots of good laughs.

We had a great time and will fly back to San Jose, CA tomorrow to spend some more time in the Bay Area.

We (Amber & David, Eric, and parents Kenneth & Sherrill) left on 7/25 from Anacortes for a week away on a chartered boat.  Robin joined us in Vancouver 2 days later.  We did this last year but the “women” didn’t stay on the boat the whole week.  Fortunately I didn’t suffer much seasickness as I normally do, thanks to some herbal remedy from Emmie.

David and Eric did most of the navigation on the boat, with Dad helping (or not, depending on who you ask).  Since I know nothing nautical, I tried to stay out of the way and counted lying down to prevent seasickness a major accomplishment.

We passed by many islands as usual and this time focused on staying near Vancouver longer, since we love that beautiful city in B.C.  Unfortunately we hit a record heat wave for 3 days – never thought B.C. could get this HOT and humid!

David and I then spent a few more days in Vancouver by ourselves.  Got a nice suite at Westin Grand, right by the VPL (Vancouver Public Library) with free wi-fi!  It was a wonderful place to people watch, read, or catch up on work and email.

I wish we could have stayed longer in Vancouver but we have to fly out to Austin (through Seattle) for a prescheduled event.
