Boating

Eric, Dad, and David charted a 36′ Trawler Cat out of Anacortes, Washington.    From there we headed north to Canada and the Gulf Island.  Our journey covered over 300 miles and visited such scenic locations as: Princess Louisa Inlet, Pender Harbour, Jedediah and Lasqueti islands, Nanaimo, “Mural city” Chemainus, Cowichan Bay, and Roche Harbor.

After the the boating leg of the journey we spent Saturday at the Seattle Boats-a-Float boat show on Lake Union in Seattle.  All in all we had a very good time and surprisingly good weather for mid-September.

Next year we’ll probably head even farther north into the Desolation Sound region.

Here are the photos from the trip.

While we were visiting my parents in Long Beach for the holidays, we took a boating trip and cruised in our Riva 50′ from Shoreline Marina in Long Beach, past San Pedro, up to Palos Verdes and back.

Though we never found the migrating whales we were searching for, we saw many interesting sights. Watch the video highlights below and see LA Harbor Light House (“Angel’s Gate”), Cabrillo Beach, South Shores San Pedro, Trump National, Point Vicente Light House, and Long Beach Harbor.

Make sure you watch the whole video (2 parts) to see the seal pod we found and listen for what mom wants to feed them!

While we were visiting with David’s parents in Long Beach for Thanksgiving holiday, David went on a short boating trip with his dad and brother Eric.

Here’s a video of the trio going from Long Beach to LA Harbor (with view of the LA Lighthouse) in the Riva 50′ (David’s dad’s boat). The weather and scenery are beautiful but be prepared for some loud wind noise in the video :-)

We (Amber & David, Eric, and parents Kenneth & Sherrill) left on 7/25 from Anacortes for a week away on a chartered boat.  Robin joined us in Vancouver 2 days later.  We did this last year but the “women” didn’t stay on the boat the whole week.  Fortunately I didn’t suffer much seasickness as I normally do, thanks to some herbal remedy from Emmie.

David and Eric did most of the navigation on the boat, with Dad helping (or not, depending on who you ask).  Since I know nothing nautical, I tried to stay out of the way and counted lying down to prevent seasickness a major accomplishment.

We passed by many islands as usual and this time focused on staying near Vancouver longer, since we love that beautiful city in B.C.  Unfortunately we hit a record heat wave for 3 days – never thought B.C. could get this HOT and humid!

David and I then spent a few more days in Vancouver by ourselves.  Got a nice suite at Westin Grand, right by the VPL (Vancouver Public Library) with free wi-fi!  It was a wonderful place to people watch, read, or catch up on work and email.

I wish we could have stayed longer in Vancouver but we have to fly out to Austin (through Seattle) for a prescheduled event.
